Working on behalf of our repeat client, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Interclass delivered an extension to the existing hospital to form a new purpose-built Breast Screening Facility, including mammography room, CT scanner, ultrasound room and image facilities.
Commencing on-site in March 2021, the project involved the construction of a new, single storey, steel framed extension to an existing building.
The new purpose-built facility, which replaces the previous mobile breast imaging unit, incorporates two dedicated rooms for breast mammography and ultrasound scans, enabling the Trust to deliver state-of-the-art breast imaging and diagnostic facilities, using the latest technology.
Despite the challenges of material shortages and working restrictions caused by the global pandemic, work progressed as scheduled on site with the project completing in November 2021, providing much needed addition to services at the Alexandra Hospital.
The design was created by Pinnegar Hayward Architects, in collaboration with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, with the aim of creating a calm, welcoming environment for patients more akin to a private clinic that a typical hospital outpatients department.
Crucially, the expansion of services will enable more screenings to take place meaning patients awaiting diagnostic tests can be seen quicker.
