Interclass shortlisted for Sustainability Award

The finalists for the Construction Awards of Excellence 2023 have been announced and we are pleased to reveal that we have been shortlisted in the ‘Environmental and Sustainability Initiative of the Year’ category.

The awards are designed to recognise companies that set the gold standard in the construction sector, with all categories independently judged.

Our submission included examples of where we have been able to influence the design and put forward green solutions and carbon-neutral alternatives on our projects as well as educating others about what carbon reduction looks like.

At Wolverhampton College we replaced a steel and concrete solution with a bespoke alternative made from 100% recycled timber and manufactured locally. The result? A 53% reduction in embodied carbon.

Earlier this year we featured on a panel discussing ‘How public sector procurement is moving towards Net Zero’ and co-hosted an event at UK Construction Week 2022 – ‘Supply Chains building towards a net zero future’ – giving advice to help businesses reduce emissions and work towards net zero.

We were also one of the first six organisations in the UK to publicly commit and sign up to the Carbon Reduction Code which forms part of the Construction Leadership Council’s Construct Zero initiative.

The full shortlist for the awards can be found here and the winners will be announced on the 20th April 2023.
