Interclass is the appointed principal contractor on the major multi-million pound redevelopment of Albany Theatre.

The Albany Theatre, which started life as part of Coventry Technical College in 1935, survived the 1940 Coventry Blitz, and even closed down in 2008, is securing its future as a theatre and community arts space with the major works.

The first phase of the development, which will bring improvements to the existing studio theatre, three new studios, a new café and improved audience and community facilities, is set for completion by Summer 2023.

We are creating two new participatory/education spaces and a new studio theatre, as well as a new café/bar, improvements to the existing studio theatre and enhanced audience and community facilities. While improving the theatre’s audience and hospitality offering, the new facilities will also allow the theatre to expand its learning and participation programmes.

The works are being delivered thanks to grants from the City of Culture Capital Fund and Coventry City Council’s Cultural Capital Investment Fund.

Testimonial

“It’s an absolute privilege to be appointed as the principal contractor on such an important facility for the city of Coventry. Through partnership working, we are in no doubt that this exciting transformation project will allow the theatre to deliver an enhanced offering and cement its role as a significant cultural venue. We are very much looking forward to getting work underway so that The Albany Theatre Board of Trustees and its volunteers can continue the brilliant work they already do but in a much-improved and fit-for-purpose environment.”
