In early 2021 Interclass were appointed to construct a new two-storey Pavilion in the centre of West Smethwick Park, with associated drainage and landscaping works.

The works, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund ‘Parks for People’ grant, included the restoration of existing heritage features such as the fountain, the access road as well as the creation of the new 500m2 pavilion building – now a central hub within the community. The pavilion provides an on-site cafe on the lower level and commercial spaces on the top level which is available for hire.

The building utilises beautiful bright green tones and extensive wood panelling both inside and out to blend with the park exterior. The sedum green roof has a central light box that reflects natural light into both the upper and the lower floors of the building.

Interclass engaged with the local community during the project, this included the recruitment of two new apprentices via Think Sandwell and the donation of time capsule where pupils from George Betts Primary Academy were able to preserve their memories of the school and the park.
