Interclass makes progress at St George’s Hospital, Stafford

Interclass was first appointed by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in 2020 to carry out a new build extension and part-refurbishment of Milford House, an existing mental health unit at St George’s Hospital.

When complete, the project will provide much-needed additional in-patient accommodation in the form of 6 new en-suite bedrooms in the extended unit, and a further 12 refurbished bedrooms in the existing facility. As part of the project Interclass are also carrying out a programme of enhancement works to the garden and courtyard area to improve the outdoor space for patients.

As Milford House has remained occupied throughout, Interclass has worked sensitively with careful planning and sequencing to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the staff and patients at all times.

Whilst on site at Milford House and testament to our relationship with the Trust, Interclass was awarded a second project at Norbury House, also located at St George’s Hospital.

The project involves internal refurbishment and alternations works alongside a new build seclusion unit. To minimise disruption to patients and staff, the project has been split into four phases. Interclass has recently completed phase 2 of Norbury House which included the formation of a new exam consultation room and staff offices

Peter Hood, Construction Director, said:

“It’s an absolute pleasure working alongside Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as we deliver these schemes. Both projects are very challenging, what with the environment within which we are working and the fact that both buildings are still occupied but our teams have been first-class in liaising with the staff at the hospital and understanding their needs and well as the patients.”

Both Milford House and Norbury House are set to handover this Summer 2021.
