Interclass speak to Walsall College students

Jacob Piggott-Dension and Sara Barnes visited Walsall College to speak to over 30 T-Level students as part of the College’s ‘Employer in the Classroom’ initiative.

During the presentation, they spoke about their job roles, the construction industry as well as the projects we are delivering at the College (Construction Skills Centre and Scaffold Training Centre), and the opportunities for the students to get involved.

T Levels are new qualifications that follow GCSEs and are equivalent to three A Levels. The T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning combines classroom theory and practical learning, and is made up of the following:

  1. A technical qualification studied over two years which covers the core knowledge required in the construction and built environment sector
  2. An industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days) with an employer to make sure students have an authentic experience of the workplace

The purpose of the T Level Technical Qualification is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher level study, including university.

The engagement was a huge success with lots of questions asked and some students already sending their CVs to us ready for when they finish their qualification in June!
